Our Mens 1s finished a long season on a very positive note Saturday by capturing the Irish Hockey Trophy at Three Rock Rovers in a very closely fought game Vs Queens University.

Played in hot conditions, the team struggled to reach its full potential against a very well organised and competitive Queens University.  Both teams had their chances throughout the game and great credit to Portrane’s Keeper Cameron Goodwin and the Queens Goalkeeper who pulled off some great saves at vital times throughout the game.

Remarkably Portrane found themselves 1-0 behind with only 4 minutes remaining but a surging run from Noa Mulvey with 2 minutes remaining forced a short corner and one last chance. Following a goal mouth scramble, Tom Mulvey at the back post poached an equaliser to force the game to 1V1s.

An inspired Cameron Goodwin pulled off 3 great saves and 3 sublime finishes from Ross Hetem, Noa Mulvey and the winning goal was converted by club legend Imran Khan to give Portrane a much coveted National title, their first since winning the Covid Hockey Trophy final in 2021.

Well done to skipper John Skehan, Player Coach Ross Hetem and all the players on what was another progressive season for the Men’s 1s squad.

Thanks also to Adrian, Derek,Paul,Anita and all our supporters who supported us in all weathers throughout the season.
